Little Rock Urban Farming’s Kavanaugh Location

So what's the deal with the wooden boxes next to the chiropractic clinic on Kavanaugh? It is Little Rock Urban Farming’s new Kavanaugh market garden! This exciting project, at 5301 Kavanaugh, exists as a partnership between Little Rock Urban farming and Mr. Jim Pfiefer and Dr. Robyn Zinser. The project will double LRUF’s bed space. We look forward to providing additional local and sustainably produced food to the surrounding community and plan to host a series of workshops on organic gardening principles and techniques. Our produce will continue to be found at the Saturday Hillcrest Market, the Tuesday Westover Hills Market, and in the dishes of several local restaurants dedicated to fresh ingredients. Development of the Kavanaugh location is an ongoing process. Take a look at the pictures below to see the progress made on the plot.

We began by leveling the lot with topsoil and then got to work on the perimeter beds.

The pathways were mulched with the help of some great volunteers. Next, we marked where the beds would be located and rolled out plastic to prevent the thick grass from growing up, through the new beds.

A lot of soil is required to fill the raised beds. Of course, it’s no match for Kate.

The lot is looking good with a new sign and all of the raised beds underway! The transformation continues, and we look forward to creating a beautiful garden in the Heights neighborhood.
